Elizabeth

Cicada Owner-Designer Elizabeth Klob has been making wedding dresses since 1994, when she started Cicada with her business partner, Jennifer Gay. Seeing women light up when they put on a one-of-a-kind dress made just for them—that’s what drives Elizabeth to design and create the gorgeous custom dresses offered at Cicada.

But she didn’t start in the bridal business. Elizabeth focused on costume design in college and worked in the theatre industry in New York City. Once she moved to Seattle, Elizabeth started designing dresses for women who didn’t want the big traditional gowns but instead were seeking clean silhouettes and vintage detailing.

Elizabeth specializes in pairing a style to each unique woman’s body type and ensuring that the fit is excellent. She designs dresses that make women look fantastic no matter their size or shape using classic, clean lines and fabulous silk fabrics. Other specialties include attire for two brides as well as dresses for full-figured women.

When it comes to choosing a dress, Elizabeth recommends that women begin the research right at home. “Look in your own closet,” she says. “What is your go-to dress that you wear for an evening out that makes you look and feel amazing? That’s where you start! Every woman knows what looks good on her and what she feels good in. Trust your instincts!”

As for who comes with you to your bridal consultation? Elizabeth says, “Bring people who will support you.”

Morgan

Sales Manager and Associate Designer Morgan Phimpiela has been making beautiful dresses with Cicada since 2014. She was studying apparel design at Seattle Central College and joined the Cicada team upon graduation.

Morgan loves making dresses that women look and feel beautiful in, made specifically for each individual client. “Whether you are customizing one of our Cicada gowns, or we’re creating the dress of your dreams, our focus is making sure the dress fits your body and style,” Morgan says. “We make sure that the style elevates you but doesn’t overpower you. We want your face to light up and let the dress provide a frame for you. You’re not a mannequin for the dress. It’s about YOU!”

When it comes to choosing a dress, Morgan recommends starting with a Pinterest board—but keep an open mind once you get to the boutique. Something might completely surprise you.

At Cicada, Morgan focuses on providing impeccable customer service. “I want women to feel comfortable,” she says, “so that they can open up and be themselves in our shop. That’s how we find the perfect dress.”
